We chatted with Jillian Goltzman from Cup of Charisma to learn more about her blog, aspirations, and of course, her go-to outfit. Between Miami and Houston, Jillian covers all things fashion, style, events and more. Check out Cup of Charisma for the latest trends and hottest topics for the ambitious millennial woman.
Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?
I’m a trend-obsessed millennial born in Miami, but living in Houston. I love writing, playing dress up, traveling, drinking far too much coffee and blogging. By day, I am a social media manager; by night, I am a fashion journalist; and 24/7, I'm crafting my passion project — Cup of Charisma. Cup of Charisma is a lifestyle blog that focuses on socially conscious brands that give back, fashion and life’s little lessons. On the blog you'll find everything from how to style trends to how to stick to your resolutions—it's a guide for a millennial by a millennial.
How did you first get into blogging?
When my five-year-old self wasn't playing Pretty Pretty Princess, she was toting around a notebook and "interviewing" family members and neighbors for breaking news. I've always known I wanted to be a writer. My first job out of college was PR; while I love the field, I found that as I was writing in my client’s voice, I was losing my own. To create some sort of work-life creative balance, I decided to start Cup of Charisma. It began as a way to feed the fire I had for writing, express my style, spread positive ideas and share causes that mattered to me. Some topics are style-focused and others hold more weight (think relationships, body confidence, FOMO and other millennial issues), making the content approachable to readers. I'm an open book and that can be a crazy/amazing thing all at once.
What is your go-to outfit for an evening out?
I'm a fan of vintage-inspired style, so my go-to look usually involves one of my A-line cut dresses from ModCloth and a fun statement necklace or pearls.
What is the most versatile item of clothing that you own?
Is it too much of a cliché to say a little black dress? I own a three-quarter sleeved black fitted dress that is just perfect for any occasion. I can dress it down with a silk scarf, spruce it up with a statement necklace or belt, and even feel confident with it as a stand-alone piece. I may have a colorful personality, but black will always be my hue of choice.
Coffee or tea?
My heart says tea, but my body says coffee! I love the idea of settling down with a cup of tea when the day is done, but I'm constantly moving and in need of heavy caffeine levels throughout the day.
Heels or flats?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my heels but I could never live without flats. If I were stranded on a desert island, flats would be in my suitcase. In fact, when I'm wearing heels to any major event, you can always find flats tucked away neatly in my bag waiting to rescue me.
What is the one thing about you that your readers would be surprised to hear?
Before going with my gut and pursuing writing, I almost decided to pursue something in the arts. I’ve acted in plays for 15 years of my life and painted for eight. I haven’t acted in years, mildly sing in the shower and pick up a pencil or paintbrush every once in awhile to unwind. That being said, I still consider the written word an art and am starting my first hopeful attempt at writing a book this year.
What is your dream job?
My idea of a dream job has adapted so many times in the last five years. One thing that remains the same is that I’d love to write in the fashion world while also helping people — thankfully, Cup of Charisma does both! Ultimately, I’d like to work my way up the editorial ranks in a magazine or have my own company some day. For now, I’m loving every little opportunity that comes my way and helps me get to the big picture.
